Three-dimensional diorama by Mike Healey
I am pleased to announce that my exhibition at The Biscuit Factory, Newcastle opens on 18th November
The Biscuit Factory is the UK's largest commercial gallery and is situated in a beautifully converted warehouse near the city centre
Click on the link below for direct access and a virtual tour of their extensive gallery spaces
My work will be on display from 18th November to 29th February 2012 in the Corner Gallery
The exhibition contains about sixty new works, including four new dioramas
The above diorama is called Juno's Descent and represents a scene from the masque in Shakespeare's The Tempest
Shakespeare is featured in one panel and extends the theme of Persephone - an ancient Greek fertility myth that is explored throughout the exhibition
The above representation of Persephone as Queen of the Underworld is a large canvas. It is painted using only gouache
The exhibition also includes a large number of new landscapes, exploring the myth of Persephone and her ancient association with seasonal change
It is from this myth that we get our seasons for Persephone was obliged to spend autumn and winter imprisoned in the Underworld, returning to the surface of the Earth for Spring and Summer

Regular visitors to this blog may remember this large canvas
It is called After the Flood
Since then I have done more work on it and it will now appear in public at the Biscuit Factory for the first time
Some of the landscapes are surreal, as in this homage below to Max Ernst:
Finally, by way of a taster, here is my idea of the Gardener of Hades!
So, if you are in the Newcastle area between 18th November and 29th February next year, do check me out!
