Winter - Montagne Noir, France

For five months I lived in the Montagne Noir region of southern France.

These beautiful mountains, covered in lush forests and dotted with remote, beautiful villages, was the inspiration for a series of paintings.

The one above depicts winter foliage on rocks high in the Montaigne Noir.

Rainbow Landscape

This is quite a large picture, using gouache on canvas, covered at each stage with varnish.
It is not usual to use gouache on canvas but I like it as it is a very flexible medium and I can "fix" each stage with a coating of varnish, allowing me to keep what works while adding another layer or detail.
