BANKSY UPDATE
The discovery and restoration of a 'lost' wall painting by 'Banksy' has created some excitement in the contemporary art world
Banksy's "Snorting Copper'
It's called 'Snorting Copper' and for years has been hidden from public view, boarded up in a public toilet in Shoreditch, Hackney
Now property developers Jonathan Ellis and David Kyle have had it restored by Chris Bull of the Fine Art Restoration Company in Carlisle - just a few miles north from where I now live
The work, once covered in graffiti and then painted white by the local council, is going to be returned to Shorditch and made available to the public - but protected this time by glass and security cameras.
It will be 'opened' on 5th October - so be there or be square?
BUT WHO IS BANKSY?
There has been much speculation as to the real identity of 'Banksy' but a recent 'slip of the tongue' by DJ/Musician Goldie may have settled matters
In a recent online interview (it's on YouTube if you want to check it out) Goldie - who claims to know Banksy - let slip the name 'Robert'
Goldie - 'Whoops!'
Fans, conspiracy theorists and amateur art detectives immediately assumed he meant his old friend Robert Del Naja of 'Massive Attack'

Could this Robert be the elusive Banksy?
Possibly, since he is a fine artist in his own right and, moreover, began as a graffiti artist when he and Goldie were mates at college in the 1980's
You can see Robert's work on album covers for 'Massive Attack's' countless releases - work that is very 'pop' and technically very accomplished
Robert Del Naja
Now, if that were not proof enough, journalist Craig Williams has been following Massive Attack's tour pattern
'Massive Attack' in concert, Toronto
He noticed that whenever the band visits a city - like Toronto, for example - a 'Banksy' mysteriously appears in some part of the city at the same time!
Coincidence?
Maybe, but when Williams 'mapped' all recent tours he saw that the same thing occurred in New York, Melbourne, Boston and LA
So, there you have it!
Banksy IS Robert Del Naja!
